1953 Norton International M40. 350cc OHC.

This very early Featherbed frame 1953 Norton International is now available to buy.

The Norton International needs no introduction. This particular Norton International does: It is the 34th Featherbed International off the production line and remains in its original, first paint and chrome.

The introduction of the Featherbed frame gave the OHC engines a new lease of line when introduced for the Manx in 1952 and for the roadgoing International in 1953.

Matching numbers for frame and engine. Original International gearbox specific to this machine with close ratios fitted.  All paint and chrome is original. The International has never been restored, never been repainted. I doubt the engine has ever been apart. The original and unmolested condition of this unique motorcycle is not to be repeated any time soon.

Polychromatic Grey with all original paint throughout and in immaculate condition with a lovely patina. The petrol tank panels are in a slightly different shade of grey, exactly as it was delivered in 1953. Not many modern restorations take this fact into account today. The rims are of course the original Dunlop rims, with original paint and lining.

The speedo shows in miles and has a mere 4988 on the clock. I cannot gurantee that this is the actual mileage but judging from the condition, judging from all the cadmium plated nuts and bolts that have not had a spanner on them, judging from the tax discs (and lack of tax discs in between years) I think this could well be the actual mileage.

The Norton International is a superb ride, the Featherbed frame steers like it is on rails. You only feel it is a 350cc at top speed, acceleration is brisk and it will easily follow, and outrun, modern traffic.

The original long neck, bronze Amal TT carb needs a bit of flicking when idling but otherwise works faultlessly. Starts first kick. Recently serviced with fresh engine and gearbox oil and a new Avon front tyre.

This is a superb, original condition Norton International that is ready to be used.

Registered on current EU registration documents and comes with UK V5 from 2019, so it should be possible to re-import to the UK without having to pay import tax.
