1937 Ariel Square Four 1000cc.

1937 Ariel Square Four. Matching numbers. One owner since 1966 and 5 owners in total. The long term, last owner was a trained machinist and used the Ariel for various rallies home and abroad.

The Square Four was restored from a complete bike approximately 20000kms ago and the engine re-build 5000kms ago. It was converted from magneto to coil ignition at the same time.

The original Lucas magneto is still mounted in place. Original SU carb is still fitted. The engine turns over smoothly. The gearbox selects freely and accurately.

Chrome plating is very nice on the petrol tank and silencers. On the clutch dome cover and the right hand side engine heat shield the chrome is tarnished and not up to the same standard as the rest of the bike.

Paint is nice, with only some light wear to the paint on the rims and the left hand side rear frame from the fitment of saddlebags.

Generally speaking, the Square Four is a nice older restoration that holds up well, not mint condition but a very nice riders bike. There are spare clutch and front brake cables fitted, evidently fitted for hassle free touring.

The Square Four comes with the original registration documents from 1937 as well as various insurance and MOT slips from the last 50 years documenting the history and previous ownership of the bike.

Registered with older EU registration documents.
